2 days course
- Supply Chain Network Design
- Supply Chain Collaboration
- Supply Chain Finance
Cost and service improvements force organizations to set up collaborations with customers and suppliers. We will tackle this subject by first working on the inventory deployment and distribution network management: where do we place which stock based on sales anticipation and how do we manage capacity in a distribution network. Capacity topics touched are warehousing, transportation and stock financing. Further we will work on the collaboration aspects: horizontal and vertical collaboration with customers and suppliers as well as with colleagues delivering common markets. Topics touched are VMI, CPFR, pooling, etc. Based on this knowledge we will focus on performance measurement in distribution and distribution cost evaluation, linked to improvement projects and improvement focus. Distribution network (re)design is detailed as one of the improvement and evaluation topics in distribution.
In this course we will introduce major concepts of modern distribution and supply chain management. Keys words in modern logistics are cost reduction, service improvement and flexibility maximization. To balance these three pre-requisites we must understand how logistics networks behave when taking certain decisions on inventory locations and inventory levels, network capacity and in making operational choices and choosing technological support. We will learn that cost and service improvements force organizations to set up collaborations with customers and suppliers.
- Inventory deployment
- Service is largely dependent on stock availability and time needed to move this stock to the customer. We will introduce techniques on how to deploy inventory in a distribution network : where do we place which stock, based on sales anticipation ; how do we manage capacity in a distribution network, which are the drivers to base decisions upon.
- Capacity management
- Capacity topics touched are warehousing, transportation and stock financing. Can we improve capacity, cost en service by working in real time ? And how do we optimize transportation? Accent is also on logistics in our region: how is this done, what should we focus on.
- Collaboration
- Further we will work on the collaboration aspects: horizontal and vertical collaboration with customers and suppliers as well as with colleagues delivering common markets. Topics touched are VMI, CPFR, pooling, etc. What at the benefits of collaboration and which efforts and parties are required in such a project are questions that will be answered during this course.
- Performance measurement and cost evaluation
- For cost reductions it is important to be able to measure and evaluate logistics performances and costs. But first one must be able to understand the cost drivers and the links between them. Benchmarking the results is key, certainly when linked to improvement projects and finding the right opportunities.
- Distribution network design
- Distribution network (re)design is detailed as one of the improvement and evaluation topics in distribution. Setting up the right network for the business helps reducing costs and maximize service and flexibility. In the systems approach all processes and relevant costs are linked to each other. The approach will proof to be valuable when optimizing the (distribution) network and making the right choice.
