Welk tool kan mijn S&OP-proces

ondersteunen ?

In dit seminar wil PICS het licht laten schijnen op de markt van de S&OP tools.  Dit proces dat over het laatste decennium enorm aan belang heeft gewonnen was traditioneel niet erg ondersteund werd door systemen. 

Gaandeweg is hier verandering in gekomen en zijn er een aantal aanbieders die een applicatie in hun portfolio voorzien hebben om die lacune op te vullen. 

Dit seminar wil een beeld geven van wat er op die markt beschikbaar is, door enerzijds een stuk kader te creëren wat die markt van S&OP tools gaande is,  maar anderzijds ook door die providers het platform te geven om de sterke punten van hun applicatie in de verf te zetten.  Dit laat U als deelnemer toe om tot een beter inzicht te komen wat de markt biedt en meer gefundeerde keuze te maken.

Het landschap van tools voor S&OP (Elke VAN PETEGHEM, PwC) (45’)

• Een gewijzigde businessomgeving heeft het S&OP-proces (Sales & Operations Planning) doen evolueren tot een belangrijk besluitvormingsproces op managementniveau.  Technologieleveranciers reageren op deze evolutie met aangepaste aanbiedingen.  Steeds meer softwareleveranciers positioneren zich als aanbieders van S&OP tools.  Maar wat betekent dat concreet ? Waarin ondersteunen deze pakketten het S&OP-proces ?

Parallelle streams waarin tool providers hun oplossing kunnen voorstellen

• Om U een beeld te geven van de markt stellen de providers in parallelle streams hun producten voor.  Er zijn 6 providers die hun product elke twee maal voorstellen.  Dit laat U toe om een dieper inzicht te krijgen in 3 van de 6 voorgestelde tools.  De providers zullen vooral een aantal sterke punten van de applicatie in de verf te zetten.  Typische timeline voor zo’n sessie is  :
  • Voorstelling van S&OP oplossing (30’)
  • Presentatie van een case waarin de differentiërende/sterke elementen van de oplossing naar voorkomen (20’)

In this course we explore Six Sigma in more detail. Starting with the structured approach we will guide you through the 5 basic steps in Six Sigma :

We explore different tools which we can use in the different phases of the DMAIC method. This course provides you with the necessary insight and tools to detect where you can make the biggest leap forward in your operations and supply chain.  The lean and six sigma approach has been assimilated over the last decades to enable you to detect opportunities and transform them into real improvements, as fast and as effective as possible. During the program you will learn about the tool set, the roadmap and philosophy.  In this course we explore Six Sigma in more detail.

  • The most commonly used six sigma roadmap will be demonstrated: Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control. The strength of these logical steps prove to be extremely useful in executing projects both for individuals frequently involved in project work as for individuals less at ease in a project environment. One of the main objectives is to transfer this logic to the participants.

• Process flow mapping
  • Not merely process mapping will be addressed but also how you can add value to your process map by adding important information like cycle time, batch size,… Examples of these process and value stream maps will be provided and discussed.

• Process Capability analysis
  • How well does your process answer the requirements of your customers? This tool will help you identify your current process performance, typical for a six sigma environment.

• Tools : Fishbone, FMEA, Cause and effect diagram
  • In the Improve phase is a crucial phase to bring your project to a successful end. Tools like a fishbone diagram or Ishikawa, FMEA or Cause and effect diagrams can help you identify where the improvement opportunities can be found.

• Six Sigma and statistics
  • Typical in six sigma is the pragmatic use of statistics to prove relationships between variables and help to define improvement actions. Have you ever wondered whether a certain warehouse or production shift really outperforms the others? We will show you how to collect the hard, statistical evidence, required for to create the buy-in in the improvement phase, in a very pragmatic manner.

• Lean Physics
  • Lean Physics tries to underpin many common sense ideas which arise in the lean and six sigma spectrum. Academic research pointed out that the ‘level of lean’ can be quantified and underscored with hard numbers, if the appropriate modeling effort is undertaken. Moreover, we can illustrate this with examples from lean physics projects conducted in various industries, including services and non-profit organizations.

Course summary

• The Fundamentals course presents the core concepts of operations and supply chain management. It introduces the major tools to improve the performance of all operations processes along the entire supply chain.  The attention goes to the distinct processes governing the flow of goods and the flow of information: planning, sourcing, production and distribution, and its interaction with other functional departments (sales and finance) and with suppliers and customers. Different key operational dimensions are analyzed such as inventory management, capacity  management and flow time management. We study the effect of variability on process performance and the managerial levers for planning and control. All this needs to be evaluated on an economic and financial level (e.g. profitability or Return on Invested Capital). Our objective is to show how managers can design and control their operations to improve the performance of any business process and we formulate implications for managerial actions to enhance both operational and financial performance.

Course content description

• Day 1 : Supply Chain Fundamentals – March 13,  2013

In order to strengthen the competitive position of your organization, it is key to manage the flow of goods and information throughout the entire supply chain. In this module we present the supply chain fundamentals: the characteristics of the flows, their integration and the terms for  continuous improvement. We introduce the fundamental process measures that affect the operational and supply chain performance. These elements will serve as structure of the course. The relation between throughput, inventory and lead time (feature for every process inside the company) is analyzed and the impact of process improvements on financial aspects will be addressed. We focus on the dynamics that supply chains faces when dealing with customers (and customers’ customers) on the one hand, and suppliers (and suppliers’ suppliers) on the other. We highlight potential problems, their causes, and formulate managerial implications to improve supply chain management. This is illustrated with a simulation game.

• Day 2 : Inventory Management & Forecasting – March 20, 2013

For most of the companies and sectors, the forecasting of the demand of the market is the starting element for a vast range of processes in the supply chain. A good forecast significantly reduces uncertainty and allows to also significantly reducing buffers. Inventory Management: even though expensive and in need of drastic reduction, stock stays a necessary evil. In this session techniques will be presented to determine inventory parameters. EOQ’s, safety stock, re-order point … and the influencing parameters in the different environments will be discussed.

• Day 3 : Integrated Planning & ERP – March 27, 2013

We address the essentials of managing the physical and informational flows in any operations system. Focus is on the way an ERP (integratedplanning) system works in order to balance the resources with the (expected) demand. Planning needs to define the future needs for necessary resources (staff, buildings, machines, materials, cash,…). The basic hierarchical approach of planning supposes definition of resources and their level of use and needs to answer the basic questions for any element in the chain: what, how much and when to deliver, to make, to procure?
An ERP simulation exercise is used to demonstrate the general planning concepts (SOP, Master Plan, Materials management, Capacity management, Scheduling and Sequencing, Sourcing, Operations Control) using a didactic ERP software. This will be the starting point to discover the role of such systems, their possibilities and limits in the context of a dynamic company with its complexity and uncertainty.

• Day 4 : Lead Time and Capacity Management – April 17, 2013

This session provides insight in the prime determinants of lead times and capacity management. The theory of constraints is developed to enable organisations to improve information or product flows in a service or manufacturing context. Bottlenecks can be related to resources, but also due to organizational inefficiencies or even market demand. This bottleneck must be identified and the whole system must be managed with this in mind. One of the most commonly ignored relationships in planning is the relationship between capacity utilisation, variability and lead times. Factory Physics explores this fundamental relationship and demonstrate the damaging impact of and solutions for variability, outages, and  capacity constraints. As such, Factory Physics provides a powerful tool to reduce lead times effectively.

• Day 5 : Lean Basics – April 24, 2013

Lean fundamentals. Due to the pressure on costs, many companies are focused internally on cost optimalization. The « Lean » thinking and associated concepts, such as Kaizen, Kanban, Just-In-Time, 5S, Value Stream Mapping … are indispensable in the journey to Operations  Excellence. The application of lean not only extends to production but also to logistics and administration.

  • Exercises are made and sample exam questions are discussed.
  • This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills in the field of production and inventory management for individuals who have little background.
  • The course consists of 5 sessions per module.
    
  • The instructor presents the official APICS study material in detail. Most attention is given to the most difficult topics.
    

• Exam training

  • This course is designed to provide an intense review of the certification topics for individuals who already possess basic knowledge.
  • The course consists of 2 sessions per module.

  • Acquire a working knowledge of the tools and techniques for planning of inventory, including planning techniques such as MRP, CRP, lean, TOC, and projects.
  • Understand the effect of using each technique; know standard measurements for inventory, materials, capacity and supplier performance; and recognize when to escalate issues.
