Winning Executive Buy-In: Strategic Communication for Supply Chain Leaders

Supply Chain Café by PICS Belgium supported by ABCAL 26.02.2026

This session highlights a critical but often overlooked reality: supply chain does not lack value—it lacks visibility at the executive level.

Despite being a key driver of revenue, margin, cash, and risk management, supply chain is still widely perceived as a cost-focused, operational back-office function.

This perception gap leads to underinvestment, late involvement in strategic decisions, and ultimately, structural value leakage.

The core issue is not performance, but communication.

Supply chain speaks in KPIs (OTIF, inventory turns, forecast accuracy), while executives make decisions based on value, growth, and risk. Without a shared narrative, the true impact of supply chain remains hidden.

To close this gap, supply chain leaders must evolve from operators to strategic value architects and influencers. This requires:

  • Translating operational initiatives into financial and business outcomes
  • Framing investments in terms of ROI, revenue growth, and cash impact
  • Adopting a consistent and structured communication approach

A strong strategic narrative, supported by a Management Operating System (MOS), helps build credibility and trust. Repetition, consistency, and alignment across teams are essential to influence executive perception and decision-making.

Ultimately, executives fund teams they trust and understand. By speaking the language of the P&L and aligning with business priorities, supply chain can reposition itself from a cost center to a growth engine—and a true strategic weapon.
