Seminar: Forecasting with Excel: Tips & Tricks !
November 21, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The goal of forecasting is to make accurate predictions of future demand/inventory levels. Accurate forecasts require accurate historic data AND a skilled forecaster. Because historic data can easily be made available in Excel, a skilled forecaster needs to be able to manipulate those data. In this seminar, we show how to manipulate data in Excel, and show participants how to transform a bunch of numbers into a meaningful forecast!
Excel basics – Jeroen Beliën (Professor at KU Leuven) & Stefan Creemers (Professor at IESEG School of Management)
We first investigate options to bring data from different sources together in one Excel sheet, with functions such as VLOOKUP, Microsoft Query and Consolidate. Next, we cover ways to prepare data for processing with functions such as CONCATENATE, LEFT, RIGHT, SEARCH, Go To and Index. We also introduce PowerPivot, a powerful tool to process big amounts of data.
Forecasting with Excel – Jeroen Beliën (Professor at KU Leuven)
We start with an Excel based forecasting game in which the participants try to beat the instructor. Next, we learn how to apply some forecasting techniques using Excel.
Advanced forecasting techniques – Stefan Creemers (Professor at IESEG School of Management)
Although the Excel forecasting functions are powerful, they are not perfect. In the last session, we show how to use Excel data analytical tools to forecast the demand of a real-life case.
