Supply Chain Café by PICS Belgium is a new initiative of PICS Belgium, oriented to members and domain experts, with the goal to distribute knowhow discussing amongst peers. The PICS Supply chain Cafés are 1 hour’s interactive lunch sessions, where an industry expert is invited to present a supply chain topic in 20 minutes, followed by a lively debate among all participants.
Blockchain in the supply chain: hype or hit?
Blockchain seems to be the next big thing. Will the technology behind bitcoin fundamentally change the way supply chains are managed? We discuss the most promising supply chain applications of blockchain and why the blockchain technology might become a game changer for these processes. We present some specific and understandable examples of blockchain applications in supply chain management. Finally, we discuss weaknesses of blockchain and hurdles that need to be overcome for successful implementation

Jeroen Belien is Full Professor and Campus Dean of KU Leuven Campus Brussels, where he teaches courses on Operations Management, Operations Research, and Supply Chain Management. Since 2014 he is Board Member of PICS Belgium.
Stefan Creemers is Professor at IÉSEG, visiting professor at KU Leuven, and board member at PICS Belgium. He received his PhD in Operations management from the KU Leuven in 2009, and he has published award-winning research in the fields of project management, healthcare operations, and supply chain management. Stefan is also the Editor in Chief of INFORMS Transactions on Education, and Associate Editor of INFORMS Journal on Applied Analytics. As an accomplished educator, Stefan has extensive experience teaching students as well as professionals. He also applies his research in practice, and has developed several software packages and business games.
